Why did you choose to an apprenticeship with Rakem?
I choose an apprenticeship with Rakem as I felt it would develop my skills both academically and practically, and give me the chance to learn new skills from my fellow colleagues. Education whilst earning was also appealing to me. The role is challenging and varied, but rewarding allowing me to keep improving which also keeps the role interesting.
What does a normal day look like?
There is never a normal day! Working for the Rakem group is very varied as I look after admin for 5 companies which means there are always new things being incorporated into my role. On a daily basis I arrange the sales orders for Maker and Cemkem, handle incoming calls to the office, order office supplies and send out post. This has helped me develop and learn new skills, when I started I never thought I’d be arrange the transport for 24mt orders!
What is the most important thing you have learnt from your apprenticeship to date?
I have learnt that to continue to develop yourself you must be open to learning new skills and communicating with each other for any help that you may need. At Rakem I communicated on all levels, including talking with Directors regularly. Communication allows the Rakem Group to be reliable to our customers, create a friendly environment and helps everyone to be do their job as effectively as they can.
What has been your most rewarding experience so far?
Recently I passed my first set of exams which made me feel like all my hard work had finally paid off! However what I enjoy most about Rakem are my colleagues. The staff at Rakem are very friendly and are always willing to provide help when I may be a bit confused, or not understand something. They make sure the atmosphere is always positive and relaxed.
Josh is proving a great asset to our team, he is turning into a very promising admin assistant. He is learning new skills everyday as well as helping the other staff when need with
any computer problems, as he has a diploma in IT. He has good interaction with the team, which can sometime be difficult for him coping with 4 ladies! We are looking forward to see how he progresses in the future.
